Well, let’s talk about every photographer’s least favorite phrase… “You can just photoshop that. Right?”
This exuberantly happy little girls is also a fearless daredevil and a few days before our Prescott Park Family Photos she took a header at daycare and superficially scratched up her sweet face.
Her mom sent me an email, asking if I thought it would be ok/if we could just photoshop it out.
The simple answer is sure, of course, if there are a few of your images you love but want to have cleaned up from any temporary marks (pimples, scratches, bruises etc) we can definitely do that.
But the more accurate answer is, it’s part of her story. Part of the memory. And wiping it out just feels kind of wrong.
I am not the style of photographer that retouches every photo for stray hairs, blemishes, rogue debris etc. I’m the style that encourages embracing the realness and connection of the people, and things, that are part of the session.
Authenticity is a VERY overused word.
But it’s also a VERY important part of creating tangible memories that are real, and not styled/posed/manufactured/altered etc.
Of course I was happy to put a virtual bandaid on for a few of these, but remembering how she got the scratch and how fearless she was seems far more important to me!
