Salient Surgical Technology LEAP Awards 05.09.11 | Portsmouth, NH Corporate Event Photography

A few weeks I go I had the honor of photographing the first annual Salient Surgical Technologies L.E.A.P. Awards. Very much a team oriented company they hosted a wonderful reception at the 100 Club in Portsmouth to honor those employees that had shown excellence in leadership.

As they arrived, the honorees were presented with sweet tulip bud boutonnieres to designate them as award recipients. Then they entered into the beautiful 100 Club function room for some amazing noshing and mingling.

When it was time to hand out the awards, they mentioned one of their employees had suggested they keep it under 15 minutes — and they did! While honoring the team members was important, so was relaxing and having a good time!

Each department went through and called out their list of recipients. Smiles and hugs all around — the morale at Salient seems to be outstanding!

Congratulations everyone — and a fanTAStic job keeping it actually within 15 minutes!

After the formalities were over they opened up the balcony. The 100 club has stunning top floor views of Portsmouth!

From my outsiders standpoint, the evening was a huge success. It’s nice to see a company that recognizes it’s employees for a job well done and motivates them do the best they can.

If I ran a company (you know, of more than me) I’d definitely put an emphasis of camaraderie! Congratulations Salient!

Business of the Year Awards 03.24.11 | Exeter, NH Event Photographer

I really enjoyed myself at last year’s Business of the Year awards, I was excited to shoot this years’. I was even more excited, and humbled, to be a nominee as well! While I didn’t win, I had a lot of fun putting together my entry.

From the Chamber Press Release: The Chamber’s 2011 Business of the Year Awards Presentation & Cocktail Reception presented by Comcast was held before a sell-out crowd on Thurs., March 24 at One Liberty Lane Office and Conference Center in Hampton.

An enthusiastic crowd enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails from Galley Hatch Catering and celebrated as this year’s winners were announced.

One Liberty Lane looked amazing!

Vendor booths were set up providing the honorees and guests an opportunity to meet and chat with some of the areas business.

The evening started with a few words from Chamber President Mike Schidlovsky

And then Kellie Farrar from Coaching+, one of last years recipients, took over as the head of Ceremonies and introduced each category and reasons why the winner was chosen before revealing who had taken the title.

Real Estate/Construction/Engineering: Emanuel Engineering, Inc.

Manufacturing/Technology: Northeast Lantern, Ltd.

Education/Non-profit less than 25 employees: Exeter Historical Society

Education/Non-profit 25 or more employees: Seacoast School of Technology

(you may recognize this place.. I talk about it sometimes.. I also took a lot of the photos he used in his submission. haha) Tourism/Hospitality: The Tavern at River’s Edge

Retail Wholesale: TIED – Cookies by Design Exeter and Cornucopia Wine & Cheese

Health Care: RiverWoods — My favorite part of Cathy’s acceptance was the heartfelt thanks that some of the residence of the facility gave to her when Riverwoods won.

And the winner’s of the category I was nominated in were the well deserving Business & Trade Services: F.W. Webb Company

But I had him in my corner — and that’s way more than I needed. That post-it says “I vote for Mom

In addition, the Chamber’s newly established Lori Breard Achievement in Leadership Award was presented to Exeter Bowling Lanes and Shooter’s Sports Pub owner Robert Ficara of Exeter. Ficara, an active Chamber member, was presented the award by Pam Cameron and Breard’s daughter Hallie Estle.

Robert Ficara was awarded the honor for his many attributes that epitomize the inspiration and example set by Breard. They include: a high level of professionalism, leadership, integrity combined with a down-to-earth approach to life; a positive attitude; and active mentoring. Also, Ficara is a strong business leader and active community member.

Ficara is an active member of the Chamber for many years, volunteering on a host of committees over many years including: the Ultimate Sports Ticket Raffle, Small Business Showcase, Sweepstakes, Fall Festival, Bruins Alumni Benefit Game and Chamber Children’s Fund. Hosting networking events, sponsoring annual events and serving at one time on the board of directors have also been part of his Chamber participation. His contributions to the community extend well beyond the Chamber, from annual fundraisers to operating two well-loved local businesses.

Rob was so genuinely touched and unsuspecting I don’t think there was any one in the room that wasn’t a little emotional at the amazing person Lori was, and that her daughter Hallie embodies, and how deserving Rob is of this award.

Congratulations to all this year’s award recipients!

Caleb Cook RMS Fund Benefit 02.19.11 | Seacoast, NH Charity Event Photographer

I was honored to be asked to photograph this amazing benefit for the Caleb Cook RMS fund. Caleb, 7, was diagnosed last year with rhabdomyosarcoma — or RMS, a rare childhood cancer which effects only 1 in 150 children each year. Foster’s Daily Democrat did a great write up on the family, go read it here.

The event was held at the beautiful Regatta Room in Eliot, ME and featured the local band Blind Spot for some great entertainment. There were also tables and tables of silent auction items, a candy cart, door prizes and a 5050 raffle! This gang had it together!

Hello candy! Oh Almond Joy — How I adore you!

Just a few of the silent auction items!

A few of the silent auction items — this bear nearly started a bidding war! And on the right is a purse made with can tabs — It was really cool!

Amy was part of the Kappa Delta sorority at UNH and her sisters were huge in helping to coördinate and run the event!

The event would not have been possible with out the planning committee — a group of fabulous amazing empowering women!

Sold Out — which is AWESOME! Tables were full of people filling out raffle tickets and noshing on the yummy food.

And Caleb was involved in every aspect of the evening — raffles included — hoping to win a new bike!

Poised and gracious, for any age, let alone 7, he got up on stage and thanked everyone for coming and kicked off the band’s performance. But they had something up their sleeve and surprised him with his very own guitar –he was totally shocked and excited.

And then he helped them rock out to their opening number.

Once the band got going people started dancing -

Age was no matter, a good time was had by all!

The 5050 raffle winner — who so generously donated all her winnings back to the fund.

And a few photos to celebrate Caleb and his family!

To view or purchase photos from the entire event, visit http://melissakoren.com/calebcook2011.htm — 10% of all proceeds will be donated back to the Caleb Cook RMS fund, or you can donate directly from their website http://www.ccrmsfund.bbnow.org/donate.php

The benefit raised over $20,000 which is outstanding! It was humbling to be involved. Thank you Cook Family, for allowing me to witness this amazing event!

Blue Moon: Evolution! 02.16.11 | Chamber of Commerce Event Photography

If you haven’t eaten at Blue Moon Evolution in Exeter yet, I suggest you do so as soon as humanly possible. The food is exquisite, the atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming you never want to leave, and the staff is warm and friendly.

This table’s for you so just do it, treat yourself to something exceptional.

On this occasion however, they were hosting the monthly Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event. They had a great looking (and tasting) fruit platter and other nosh…

And some FINE bartenders & drinks! One of my favorites… Beetnik After Dark: Organic Beet Infused Tequila, Lillet, Cointreau, Freshly Squeezed Lemon and a Splash of Agave Syrup. SO GOOD!

Time to get down to business — the business of winning! I even won a gift certificate to Tranquility Spa which I used towards a nice pedicure before my trip to Indianapolis in April. Trip? What trip.. more on that later ;)

Thank you Blue Moon — for evolving — I’m so glad Exeter has you!

Dani turns 2! 02.06.11 | Seacoast, NH Children’s Event Photographer

Sometimes you just want to throw the party. You don’t want to worry if your camera is around, and charged, and the card is empty. Sometimes you’d much rather just host and socialize and just sit and revel in your amazing children and not only see them through the back of your camera. That’s where I can help. If you’re interested in having me photograph your next awesome event-that-you-wouldn’t-necessarily-consider-hiring-a-photographer-for then let’s talk!

Oh Dani Dani Dani — where does the time go!? How are you already 2 years old!? And so full of PERSONALITY (though, I know your parents well so that doesn’t actually surprise me) ;)

Daddy’s pride & joy

And so full of love for mum & big brother

And nana too! Good looks run in this family — your cousin is a sweet beautiful little girl also!

Hilary did an awesome job with the cupcake tower again this year. And pink m&m’s perfect for a princess!

Happy Birthday To You!

Much more sure of what to do with cake this year than last year she had no problems digging right in!

mmm, mmm, good!

Time for presents!

And here she is from all the times I’ve photographed her — 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, and TWO!

So much love Miss Dani, Hil, Rich & Zac. *smooch*!

Truffle + Tavern Annual Toys for Tots Drive 12.16.10 | Exeter NH Charity Event Photography

If you’re a regular reader, you know by know that Tavern at River’s Edge in Exeter is one of our frequented establishments. When owner Jeff asked me to come take some photos of their annual Toys for Tots drive featuring Dave Gerard +Truffle I couldn’t say no.

Dave & the band are a lot of fun.

They’re sure to make you tap your toes, or better yet, get up and dance!

The Tavern staff is quite the musical bunch, Keith the chef and Jon one of the bartenders were in on the action for a few songs.

And Jeff split his time between tending bar and playing the back up bells!

Warm, cozy & romantic — Truffle and Tavern are both great date nights!

Or just a night out on the town with friends!

All that fun AND a great cause — their sleigh runneth over! (As long as it doesn’t runneth over grandma!) ;)

Truffle will be making it’s return to Tavern on May 26th! Make sure you stop by and celebrate the start of summer with good food, music & company!

Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce @ Shooters’s Pub 08.19.10 | Exeter, NH Event Photography

The Exeter Chamber of Commerce is a good time. As a member I enjoy their business after hours events when I can get to them, which is never as often as I’d like.

The Ultimate Sports Ticket Raffle event at Shooter’s Pub was one I had to be at though, no ifs ands or buts.

I had no idea that Shooter’s had such an awesome outdoor space! I believe you can book it for functions — it’s awesome!

Inside a surprise was brewing — our dear Molly, director of marketing and all around fabulous asset to the Chamber was moving back to Ohio.

And this was her surprise going away party!

Presented with a basket of Exeter goodies that nearly weighed more than she does! (Though that’s not hard to do :) )

What a gorgeous cake — featuring the head shot I did for her hehe :)

Of course we were there to talk up the UST raffle also — this is a great shot to win amazing seats to major sporting events! You can buy them online (or through me if you so desire)

Winner Takes All!!! Two premium seat tickets to EACH of the following: Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, NASCAR and UNH Men’s Hockey (4 tickets). As if that weren’t enough, the lucky winner will also receive THREE roundtrip limousine rides to the events of their choice, courtesy of Reprise Limousine. A minimum of 5% of gross ticket sales will be donated to the Chamber Children’s Fund.

A few fellow Chamber members — John & Laurie from Party Time DJ and fellow photography Allie of Natural Images by Allie

You never know what can happen at a Chamber meeting — impromptu dance lessons!

If you’re interested in being a Chamber member you can tag along to an event with me to learn more or contact Bobbi, director of membership for more information!

I’m only sad you’ll not get to know Molly — but look forward to working with her successor Gretchen.
